Elecsum e-sharing strengthens its participation in the Energy Democratisation Hub at Enlit Europe 2025

Enlit Europe 2025 turned Bilbao into the European epicentre of the energy transition, bringing together more than 15,000 professionals from 140 countries to discuss digitalisation, flexibility, renewables, data and new models of energy consumption.

In this context, Elecsum e-sharing played a prominent role, offering a clear and transformative vision of the opportunities of shared energy, the current regulatory landscape and the importance of having digital tools.

Shared energy as a response to the new challenges of the electricity system

During the session “Progressive Energy Sharing Models”, Xavi Bou Torrent, Innovation & Public Funding Director & Renewable Energy Communities Director at Elecsum e-sharing, explained how shared energy models can address a scenario marked by falling market prices, the accelerated growth of photovoltaics and the increasing number of hours with zero or negative prices. In 2025, Spain had already accumulated 759 hours under these conditions, a clear sign of the challenge posed by managing renewable surplus.

Currently, many residential photovoltaic systems inject between 60% and 70% of their surplus energy into the grid, while industrial zero-injection installations lose around 2 TWh per year. Faced with this reality, Elecsum e-sharing argues that Spain’s current collective self-consumption regulation should allow this surplus to become a social resource, directing excess energy to vulnerable families instead of wasting it or selling it at a symbolic price.

Energy digitalisation for inclusion and citizen participation

In the session “Digital Technologies Powering Energy Democratisation”, Elecsum e-sharing moderated a panel discussion with representatives from European companies such as UtilityCloud, EDF, Kaluza, 2Tokens and members of the Port of Rotterdam. The debate highlighted the role of data and digital platforms in creating more informed consumers who are better connected and more capable of actively participating in the energy transition. Technologies such as blockchain and AI pave the way for new models of ownership, financing and renewable asset management. Likewise, digital tools aim to enable all consumers (including households) to access flexibility markets and benefit from more competitive energy prices.

Elecsum e-sharing advocates that new energy models —such as energy communities and shared energy schemes— require tools that are accessible, intuitive and designed to generate real value for people. Transparency in energy information, real-time monitoring and administrative simplification are key elements to make this possible.

Finally, in the session “Latest Legal, Regulatory and Digital Aspects”, Elecsum e-sharing shared, alongside other European speakers, its vision on the regulatory challenges faced by both the Spanish and European regulators regarding shared energy and the current incentives available for the legal structures of energy communities in Spain.

Enlit Europe 2025: innovation, collaboration and global vision

This year’s edition was particularly relevant due to the high level of participation and the quality of the discussions. With more than 500 speakers, 200 sessions, 600 represented utilities and an exceptional volume of networking —over 60,000 interactions generated through the AI-powered app— Enlit Europe 2025 strengthened its position as the leading event of the European energy sector.

The core topics revolved around electrification, flexibility, massive renewable integration, hybrid solutions, the role of hydrogen and the new capabilities of artificial intelligence to optimise energy management. These areas align perfectly with Elecsum e-sharing’s mission: promoting more distributed, participatory and efficient energy models.

Elecsum e-sharing, committed to a fairer and more community-driven energy model

Elecsum e-sharing’s participation in Enlit Europe 2025 reaffirms our commitment to energy communities, shared energy models and inclusive digital solutions as essential tools to accelerate a fair energy transition. We believe that innovation must serve people, and that every renewable kWh has value —especially when it becomes an opportunity to reduce inequalities.

Enlit Europe has once again demonstrated that the future of energy depends on open, collaborative and socially impactful models. And Elecsum e-sharing will continue contributing with solutions that transform the way we produce, share and experience energy.
